Industrial Separation Solutions
Application
"I am very interested in using your curtain inside a 15’x50’ metal building to separate the workshop from the storage area. I plan to close the curtain and air condition the shop area during the summer months. How difficult is the installation?"
Solution
Insulated industrial drapes would be great for isolating a workshop from a storage space in a metal building. These curtains are meant to be a strong barrier that keeps the temperature in your workshop area under control and stops cool air from leaking into the storage room. In this situation, the insulated curtains especially help since they provide thermal resistance, which is necessary to keep the shop space cool in the summer while air conditioning is running.
The curtains require a quite simple installation technique. Mounting the curtains on a ceiling track system lets them slide open or closed as needed. The track system is made for simple attachment to the structure of your metal building; most installations may be finished with simple tools. Depending from your configuration, installation could take several hours, but the outcome will be a practical and effective divider improving your workspace. Furthermore, they are a sensible long-term fix for your building since they are low-maintenance and robust.
Application
We are looking for an industrial curtain to run the length of our shop (60 feet) to divide the area. We need it to be 12 feet high, with a two-tone gray design and a red bottom, and no windows. As long as there is a small doorway to move between sides, we don’t need it to slide. The track systems were a bit confusing on your website, so I could use some help figuring out what to order. Thanks.
Solution
Custom-colored vinyl curtains would exactly fit your needs for separating your shop with a 60-foot long, 12-foot high industrial curtain. Designed in the two-tone gray with a red bottom as advised, this kind of curtain guarantees not only good performance but also fit with your aesthetic tastes. For retaining solitude or concentration in particular work zones, the lack of windows will offer total visual separation between the two regions.
The curtain can be installed with a built-in strip door or a strategically placed zipper door if you want a little doorway for access but do not require the curtain to slide. This eliminates the requirement for a complete sliding mechanism and permits simple passage between the two zones. About the track system, the curtain can be hung straight to the wall or ceiling with fixed mounting brackets since sliding is not required. This provides a simple and efficient way to divide your area by removing the complex sliding track system and streamlining installation.

I have 3 questions regarding the garage curtains. Can Strip Curtains be sewn onto vinyl curtains?
1. My garage has a 6 " difference in floor to ceiling height from front to back. Do you make the curtains with a similar height difference?
2. It appears that the roller track is just under 1.5" wide. How would I attach a ceiling mounted track along a 1.5" rafter that is running in the same direction as the track since the mounting hardware appears wider than 1.5"?
3. Can a strip curtain be incorporated into a curtain to form a type of door? If so, what size can it be?
Solution
Sewn-in Strip Curtains are available be sewn-in at least 1' from the left or right edge of a curtain. Due to its weight, we can only do 3' wide x 7' high or 6' wide x 7'h. If you need something bigger than this for entrance, we have a frame where you can hang Strip Curtains with sizes available up to 12'. More entry or exit point options are available on this Page.

How do I choose a color among the tinted vinyl material colors that you have available for welding?
Solution
Choosing the right tinted vinyl color for welding curtains depends on the specific application, safety requirements, and desired visibility. Each color has unique properties for filtering light and UV radiation while providing a level of visibility into the welding area. Therefore, lighting is also a factor in choosing. Rule of thumb is, the darker the shade is, the better the UV protection it can provide. Please see the chart here for additional reference:

How are the Floor Straps attached at the bottom?
Solution
Akon industrial curtains typically use floor straps to secure the curtains at the bottom, ensuring stability and preventing them from flapping or moving due to air currents or other disturbances This is Velcro sewn at the bottom of the curtain, usually spaced every 4', and paired with a D-ring. You secure the Floor Strap by looping it into the D-ring and stick it back to itself. You can check out this page for more information about Floor Straps and other accessories.
Application
Can the Floor Straps help the curtains withstand high winds?
Solution
Floor Straps can help the curtain avoid excessive movement due to regular or slight gush of wind. Their effectiveness is still dependent on the way they are attached (ie. should not be rubbing on abrasive surfaces, mounted on a horizontal floor and not on vertical wall). If more than gush of winds are expected, it is imperative to put horizontal ratchet straps. These are available from various sources online. Mesh, Webbing and other features may also be useful. Please see this page for a system that may be applicable for this application.
Application
What is the purpose of Floor Sweep?
Solution
Floor Sweep works like a Door Sweep. In general, curtains should not be touching the floor especially the sliding ones. This is to avoid the bottom edges to get damaged and wear out quicker than its standard useful life. This also means that there's a slight gap between the floor and the bottom of the curtain. Floor Sweep seals that gap, while keeping the bottom of the main curtain undamaged and remains replaceable if worn out.
Application
Do I need to deduct Floor Sweep's height from the overall height of the curtain?
Solution
No, Floor Sweep is supposed to sit on the floor. This hangs 6" below the main curtain divider to close the gap.
Application
What is the Floor Sweep made out of?
Solution
Floor Sweep is made out of the same material as the main curtain except for Insulated curtain. For Insulated Curtains, it will be made from the skin of it. For Sound Curtains, it can be still be made from the same sound barrier material.

What can Filter Panels do?
Solution
Filter Panels help allow negative air pressure, especially useful for systems where exhaust fans are incorporated. This avoids the curtains to get sucked in due to the ventilation system installed. Aside from having controlled airflow inside the enclosure, it avoids contaminants to get inside it. Since it is attached using Velcro, Filter Panels can be replaceable. Ask AKON representatives for a quote for replacement if needed here.
Application
What are the sizes available for Filter Panel?
Solution
These Filter Panels are available in 4'x4' and 2'x4' (any orientation) sizes.
Application
How are the Filter Panels attached on the curtain?
Solution
Filter panels are attached to industrial curtains using methods designed to ensure a secure fit, ease of installation, and accessibility for maintenance. They are attached using Velcro strips sewn onto both the curtain and the panel. This allows for easy removal and replacement of the panel for cleaning or filter changes.
Application
Can I weigh the curtain down?
Solution
We can add a pocket to the bottom of the curtain, allowing you to insert a lightweight chain. A recommended chain size is approximately 3/16". The lightweight chain ensures the curtain remains flexible enough to slide side to side easily. You can use a longer chain if desired, giving you the option to anchor it to the floor or loop it around a post or column to secure the curtain in place.
Application
How can I seal the edges of the curtains to adjacent walls or posts?
Solution
The most common option we offer is a Velcro feature. We can provide stick-on Velcro strips that you can attach to the curtain and the structure where you want the curtain to be sealed. Another option is a magnetic button sewn onto the vertical sides of the tarp. This is ideal for sealing the curtain against a metal beam or post.
Application
Do you have magnet strips?
Solution
We do not offer magnetic strips, but we can install magnetic buttons on our curtains, spaced approximately 3 feet apart. If necessary, we can adjust the spacing to be shorter.
Application
How far are the grommets from the edge of the curtain?
Solution
The distance from the edge of the curtain to the center of the grommets is approximately 1 inch.
Application
What material are the grommets made from?
Solution
The most common grommet we supply is made from Brass metal. However, we also offer stainless steel grommets, ideal for food production facilities or other applications requiring rust-resistant materials.
Application
If I decided to proceed with the curtain order without the floor sweep, would I be able to add it later if needed?

Application
Do you have solutions for areas with obstruction above the enclosure such as overhead cranes?
Solution
Yes, there are specialized industrial curtain solutions for areas with overhead obstructions such as cranes, beams, or pipes. These systems are designed to provide flexibility and maintain the functionality of the enclosure without interfering with existing structures.
We have 3 most common solutions to address these.
1. Using Steel Cable. Tension Cables are widely available in local hardware stores. This heavy duty mount can easily carry the weight of the curtain, while letting it retract through its grommets with S-hooks. This is the simplest way of avoiding the obstruction at top, by mounting the cable from pole to pole or wall to wall.
2. Freestanding Hardware. We can provide tracks that are supported by uprights with a maximum height of 12'. These columns are spaced every 8' to 10' depending on the curtain material.
3. SB-5000 and SB-9000 Retractable Screen Models. These two may use various materials and allow openings be enclosed by letting the curtain retract from a roller that is mounted on a post or a wall.
Application
Can I field cut the curtain if there are pipes and other obstructions that has to pass through it?
Solution
Yes, you can field cut industrial curtains to accommodate pipes, ducts, or other obstructions. However, it's essential to follow proper steps to ensure the curtain remains durable and functional after modifications.
1. Mark the Cutting Area:
Use a marker or chalk to outline the area that needs to be cut. Measure carefully to ensure accuracy and avoid cutting more than necessary.
2. Cut the Curtain:
Use a sharp utility knife or heavy-duty scissors to make clean cuts. Cut slowly to prevent tearing or jagged edges.
3. Reinforce the Cut Edges:
To prevent fraying or weakening of the material, apply reinforcement tape such as the one that can be purchased from tear-aid.com (make sure to get Type B). If you anticipate cutting the curtains onsite, you can also include patch tapes on your order. Field cutting allows you to adapt the curtain for custom installations without compromising its effectiveness, provided it’s done carefully. This is a common practice in this industry. Vinyl curtains are tightly reinforced and even if cut is made, they will not fray.
Application
Do you provide repair services for accidental damage to the curtains?
Solution

Can I customize curtain colors by adding windows only for viewing, but the rest are not transparent?
Solution
Yes, you can customize industrial curtains to include transparent viewing windows while keeping the rest of the curtain opaque. This option is commonly available for applications requiring visibility into enclosed areas without compromising privacy, containment, or light blocking.
Combination includes, but not limited to: opaque material (13oz, 18oz, 22oz) and clear material (20mil, 40 mil); opaque material and tinted material.
It is important to note that clear curtains/windows do not provide UV protection from welding sparks. Also, clear curtains cannot be seamed together with tinted curtains.
These applications are displayed on these pages: welding walls and canvas walls.
