"We are looking for weld curtains that are able to be used with a laser welder. Do you have welding curtains for laser application?"
Solution
Welding curtains for laser welders are specialized barriers designed to protect workers and equipment from the intense light, heat, and sparks generated during the laser welding process. These curtains are crucial for safety in environments where laser welding is performed, as they help to prevent injury and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
We offer specialized Foldable Laser Curtains that is made from rigid materials to withstand the operation. We also offer retractable laser welding curtains that are both large and small that roll on curtain tracks.
Application
"I am reaching out to you today because I have a couple of questions. My company is looking to install welding curtains around a piece of robotic welding equipment. The device is a collaborative robot, so it is fixtured permanently on a portable table."
"We would like a curtain design that can wrap completely around the robot and mount on the table, but also be able to slide open in all locations for loading parts onto the table. How can I hang the curtains to allow it to slide around a robotic welding equipment?"
Solution
Welding Curtain Track with roller hooks allows you to roll the welding curtains side to side which allows maximum access to both sides of your welding area.
The heavy-duty curtain track is modular in design in that it comes in 6, 8 and 10’ lengths that easily bolt together.
These are tracks that allow the curtains hang on hooks and let them slide.

"I'm looking at basic garage separation vinyl, we will be grinding and welding on one side and I'm wondering if your vinyl is flame retardant. Are your welding curtains fire retardant?"
Solution
Most of our curtains are Fire Retardant. It will still catch fire, but it does it very slowly and it self-extinguishes. If you need something that can withstand grinding sparks and spatters on a closer perimeter, you can check out our Canvas Welding Curtains here.
Also, keep in mind that flame resistant is different from flame retardant. The biggest difference between flame resistant and flame-retardant fabrics lies in how each is made. Without a special chemical application, a fabric will not qualify as flame retardant. Similarly, without being made of certain nonflammable fibers, a fabric will not quality as fire resistant. FR Materials are generally used in commercial applications where a curtain is functioning as a fire blocking and smoke blocking barrier which is lower down in the event of a fire while flame retardant fabrics are chemically treated to be slow burning or self-extinguishing when exposed to an open flame. These fabrics can be made from any material, but they must be treated with special chemicals to qualify as flame retardant.

"We are looking for portable welding screens that is FM4950 approved or one that would be equivalent to that standard. Can you supply some information on the portable welding screens as far as the temp rating, distance they are to be away from direct flame / sparks and any other technical details about them?"
Solution
We sell curtains that are from a materials company that has gotten FM approval on the curtains, but we can’t say they are FM approved as the company that does the FM approvals won't allow resellers of the material to use the FM logo. However, the curtains would have the FM approved tag on them if you order from us. It’s complicated as far as marketing is concerned but we do sell curtains that have gone through the FM approval via another company. You can check more information on Hot Works Curtains here.

How can I reduce the static charge on vinyl curtains?
Solution
Static buildup on vinyl curtains, especially in industrial or warehouse settings, can be problematic, leading to dust attraction, sticking issues, and even potential hazards.
There are several ways to address this. Below are the 2 most common ones.
1. Regular dust removal and cleaning the vinyl curtains by including it on your regular maintenance can prevent the accumulation of the dust and particles, which contribute to static buildup.
2. There are products called anti-static sprays and cleaners that can be purchased from online stores like Amazon or physical stores like Home Depot or Lowes. It can come as spray-on products or a solution that you can use to dampen a cloth and apply on the vinyl.

Do you have solutions for areas with obstruction above the enclosure such as overhead cranes?
Solution
Yes, there are specialized industrial curtain solutions for areas with overhead obstructions such as cranes, beams, or pipes. These systems are designed to provide flexibility and maintain the functionality of the enclosure without interfering with existing structures.
We have 3 most common solutions to address these.
1. Using Steel Cable. Tension Cables are widely available in local hardware stores. This heavy duty mount can easily carry the weight of the curtain, while letting it retract through its grommets with S-hooks. This is the simplest way of avoiding the obstruction at top, by mounting the cable from pole to pole or wall to wall.
2. Freestanding Hardware. We can provide tracks that are supported by uprights with a maximum height of 12'. These columns are spaced every 8' to 10' depending on the curtain material.
3. SB-5000 and SB-9000 Retractable Screen Models. These two may use various materials and allow openings be enclosed by letting the curtain retract from a roller that is mounted on a post or a wall.
Application
Can I field cut the curtain if there are pipes and other obstructions that has to pass through it?
Solution
Yes, you can field cut industrial curtains to accommodate pipes, ducts, or other obstructions. However, it's essential to follow proper steps to ensure the curtain remains durable and functional after modifications.
1. Mark the Cutting Area:
Use a marker or chalk to outline the area that needs to be cut.
Measure carefully to ensure accuracy and avoid cutting more than necessary.
2. Cut the Curtain:
Use a sharp utility knife or heavy-duty scissors to make clean cuts.
Cut slowly to prevent tearing or jagged edges.
3. Reinforce the Cut Edges:
To prevent fraying or weakening of the material, apply reinforcement tape such as the one that can be purchased from tear-aid.com (make sure to get Type B). If you anticipate cutting the curtains onsite, you can also include patch tapes on your order.
Field cutting allows you to adapt the curtain for custom installations without compromising its effectiveness, provided it’s done carefully. This is a common practice in this industry. Vinyl curtains are tightly reinforced and even if cut is made, they will not fray. Other information are available on this page.
Application
Can I also use optional items such as Seal Velcro on welding curtains?
Solution
Even though it is possible to do this and may successfully achieve its purpose of sealing the edges, Velcro is not made from the same material and can catch fire easier than the vinyl curtain because of how it's made. Therefore, it is not advisable. Edges can be sealed using Grommets that can be installed anywhere on the curtain.
Application
Do you provide repair services for accidental damage to the curtains?
Solution
Yes, we offer repair services or repair kits for curtains damaged by accidents. In connection to this, if you received the curtains with manufacturer defects, it is covered under warranty. See this page for more details, including the ones for outdoor applications which have slightly different terms.
Application
Can I customize curtain colors by adding windows only for viewing, but the rest are not transparent?
Solution
Yes, you can customize industrial curtains to include transparent viewing windows while keeping the rest of the curtain opaque. This option is commonly available for applications requiring visibility into enclosed areas without compromising privacy, containment, or light blocking. Combination includes, but not limited to: opaque material (13oz, 18oz, 22oz) and clear material (20mil, 40 mil); opaque material and tinted material. It is important to note that clear curtains/windows do not provide UV protection from welding sparks. Also, clear curtains cannot be seamed together with tinted curtains. These applications are displayed on these pages: the industrial version and the portable version.
