Overview
Overhead cranes are common in industrial facilities because they can load, unload, and transport materials quickly and efficiently. They almost entirely replace human power by carry heavy loads and thus making the working process safer and more cost-efficient. With such equipment, you will be able to lift and transport goods through the warehouse.
To make overhead cranes more efficient, you could equip them with special curtains. First, if you want to cover the area above the crane, you can add strip curtains. They will allow the crane to pass through without hindering its movement. Next, you can add bottom freestanding curtains with tension cables. Finally, the addition of welding curtain cells will help divide the working floor space.
OPTION #1 - Steel Cable Mount
Details
Here, you would hang the industrial curtains below the overhead crane using tensioned steel cables. To do this, we use the tension cables with s-hooks and turnbuckles to tighten the cables, which will allow the curtains to hang freely below the overhead crane. The curtain could move side-to-side if needed, and the crane has complete access above the curtain to move from zone to zone. You would want to consult with a rigging company about the cables needed (AKON does not supply cables) and to make sure your structure is strong enough to hold the curtain. You can view the weight of the curtains on this page.
Option #2 - Freestanding Mount
Details
Using hardware that supports the curtains from the ground up is a common option. You can also create an opening in the freestanding curtains for the crane hook to pass through. You are limited to 12' in height for AKON hardware, but you could fabricate your uprights if you need to go higher. The curtain track hardware will allow the curtains to move side-to-side for access up to 8' wide between the uprights. If you want to cover the space above the crane, you can mount clear strip curtains. These strips mount to the roof deck or cross members of the building. The crane will easily push through them when moving yet still block air from one zone to the other.
Option 3 - SB-5000 Roll Up Shades
Details
Our roll up curtains are the ideal solution for separating and reorganizing floor space in industrial facilities with overhead cranes. Their integrated design allows them to take the shape of almost any cell configuration you want. The wheels installed on the pedestal base make it easy to transport without much effort. Unlike anchored freestanding screens, the SB-5000 curtains can be tilted backward and rolled away from production for 100% access. You can connect up to four shades to a single post while allowing clear overhead access to overhead cranes.
Option 4 - CS-500 Retractable Cable Shades

Why Divide Floor Space With Overhead Cranes?
Dividing Space Below The Crane
By using AKON's below the crane floor spacing zoning curtains, you will be able to upgrade the area by:
- Dividing up manufacturing space
- Improving temperature, dust, and humidity control
- The curtains can be quickly installed and removed
- They will keep your workers comfortable and safe
- Seal off unused warehouse space, even above the crane
- Reduce heating and cooling bills and labor costs
- Contain dust, over-spray, and odors
- Worker privacy and comfortable working conditions
- Can be repurposed for future use in other applications
- Curtains are fully-customizable to fit nicely next to any type of industrial overhead crane
Overhead Crane Curtain Advantages
Easy Installation
AKON's overhead crane curtains and strips take almost no time to set up or take down.
No Obstructions
The strip curtains will seal off the space above the crane without hindering manufacturing processes.

Overhead Crane Curtains
Combining freestanding industrial curtains, overhead strips, and welding curtain cells can transform a facility's appearance and operation. Together, these curtain types will make your warehouse more secure and work-efficient.
Neither of them will hinder the movement of the overhead crane; instead, they will cover empty spaces and separate the working floor into numerous cells. Unlike other types of walls, these curtains are inexpensive and can be customized with different layouts, heights, lengths, tracks, colors, and other accessories.
